Guitarist Margaret Slovak's second CD features eleven of her elegant and expressive jazz/classical instrumental compositions for solo guitar and various duets, along with a jazz ballad, In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning, and a beautiful piece written by Brazilian musician Egberto Gismonti, Memoria E Fado.The eight duets on the disc pair Margaret's nylon-string and soft electric guitars with acoustic bassist Dave Captein, pianist George Mitchell, and steel-string guitarist Doug Smith. Many of the compositions were inspired by her experiences playing music for patients in hospitals and hospice. Margaret also created the artwork found on the CD cover and insert. Margaret originally began to record this CD in November, 2002; however, in January, 2003, she was involved in a car accident and sustained neck, arm, shoulder, and nerve injuries, which affected the function of her right hand. After several years of physical therapy, surgery, and a process of adapting her technique, Margaret was able to resume recording in June, 2004, and New Wings was completed in March, 2005.
