Album Description

The second collaboration between Ma Ja Le (who previously released IMAGINARIUM with Vir Unis) and James Johnson (who released ENTERING TWILIGHT on Hypnos this year) is a sonic melding of the minimalist overtones and organic synth work of James Johnson & the ethno-tribal-atmospheric sounds of ambient duo Ma Ja Le. The "duo plus one" previously worked together on the limited-edition (now out of print) LIVE UNDER A HARVEST MOON, and now show us what they can accomplish given some time in the studio. The sonic tapestry is as lush, emotive and transportive as it gets. A spiraling journey to the deepest depths of ethereal ambience and back. Hypnos Recordings is pleased and excited to release this "organic space music," SEED by Ma Ja Le and James Johnson.

Tribal, serene and floor-shaking, all at once

"A lysergic journey into the dark and back, this CD doesn't really resemble anything any of these artists has done before. Maybe it's a little reminiscent of Ma Ja Le's collaboration with Vir Unis, Imaginarium (minus the prog-rock elements). James Johnson, mostly known for his long-form piano-and-synth explorations similar in feel to Eno's Music for Airports, is way out in unfamiliar territory here.This would be a good ambient recording for people who don't like "ambient", as there's always lots of subtle but weird noises to keep you interested. But it's still ambient enough that you could sleep through it if you wanted to. Until the epic final track, with its bass notes that'll rattle your windows and test the limits of your stereo system.A note for audiophiles: this is an HDCD-encoded disc. I haven't had the opportunity to hear it on a an HDCD-capable player, but I'm sure the results would be marvelous. The sound quality is lush, regardless.Another great disc from the Hypnos label. Highly recommended."
