Satchmo and the All Stars

"Truly an all star lineup: Louis, Jack Teagarden, Barney Bigard, Earl "Fatha" Hines--right there you've got some of the greatest ever to pick up an instrument, and they all have their moments on this CD. I don't get the same intensity from this concert as you'll find on their Town Hall concert CD, recorded in the same period. The addition of Big Sid Catlett on drums rather than Cozy Coles on this recording would along make the Town Hall concert an absolute must-have for your collection of traditional jazz. Here, just Louis and Fatha, well, they are two of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. And Teagarden is a master trombonist, loved playing with Louis, and plays and sings beautifully here on 'Stardust.' Bigard's lovely tone is evident. Recommended."

A really great concert.
The entire 28 tracks of this concert date are available on Decca's 4CD 'The California Concerts' set.
That also includes 31 tracks -- all of the session tapes -- from the January 21, 1955 Crescendo Club gig. The Crescendo Club is an even better performance, if you can fathom that!"
