CD Reviews

Very, very poorly produced
Redgecko | USA | 03/16/2004
(1 out of 5 stars)

"The song titles listed on the back of the CD case does not match the songs on the CD!! Examples (Disc 2): Trk #1 is She's Making Whoopee in Hell Tonight, not Trk #2 as listed on the CD case. Trk #4 is Racketeer's Blues, not Trk #6. Jersey Belle Blues is Trk #6, not #10. Trk #8 is Steady Grind, not Trk #14. The rest of the mess is impossible to figure out on your own. CD 1 is equally as screwed up.You can go the Document Record website for an accurate track listing."
Unforgettable Collection Of Vintage Blues
Terence Allen | Atlanta, GA USA | 07/10/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Lonnie Johnson - The Collection is a wonderful assemblage of classic blues music from a figure that is unfortunately often forgotten - a fate that has befallen many great blues artists.

A guitarist admired and respected by even Robert Johnson, Lonnie Johnson was one of the earliest recorded blues artists, and definitely one of the first, if not first, guitar hero of the 20th century. Many, many cuts on this collection attest to his great skill with the guitar.

Not be overlooked is the cleverness of his songs. The constant blues themes - love, adultery, betrayal, murder, sex, loneliness are explored on this collection in many witty ways. Songs like "She's Making Whoopie In Hell Tonight," "Racketeer Blues," "Blues Is Only A Ghost," and "Broken Levee Blues" are wonderful.

This is a must for vintage blues lovers, blues guitar lovers, and anyone who loves folk and roots music."
