Synopsis

Album Description
MAXJAZZ is pleased to introduce its new series - the "band series" - with a live recording of the band Trio Da Paz and Joe Locke. Voted by the German magazine, "Jazzthetik", as one of the most outstanding concert events of 2007, Live at JazzBaltica captures a memorable performance at the festival in Salzau, Germany. Trio Da Paz features three of Brazil's most-in-demand musicians including guitarist and MAXJAZZ recording artist Romero Lubambo, bassist Nilson Matta and drummer Duduka Da Fonseca. Joe Locke is regarded by many to be the most gifted vibraphonist of his generation. The recording was produced by all four musicians and features five original compositions and three standards.

"Trio da paz includes three magnificient BRAZILIAN PLAYERS which have collaborated in the past with pianist KENNY BARRON in CANTA BRASIL a fantastic recording. It is brasilian jazz music blended with joe locke vibes in a live recording which took place last year in salzau jazz fesival in Germany.Although it is live the sound of recording is very good .It is a very rare and musical recording ,which for sure must not be missed .TRIO DA PAZ/BASSIST NILSON MATTA GUITARIST ROMERO LUBAMBO DRUMMER DUDUKA DA FONSECA .AWESOME PERFORMANCE FROM ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE BAND ."
Solid entry from Trio da Paz

"I saw Trio da Paz this spring at the Healdsburg Jazz Festival in Sonoma County CA (check it out - this is becoming a serious event for jazz lovers,) and was quite taken with them. I have been a big fan of Romero Lubambo for quite a while now, having been introduced to his beautiful nylon string playing on the 'Infinite Love' CD which I highly recommend. I was less taken with the CD he sold at his show as it didn't seem to capture the band's wild abandon that I had just experienced on the stage. It is hard to find much of his work here in the states even though he now lives in New Jersey, so I was happy to find this live album here on Amazon. I have also recently become a fan of vibist Joe Locke, so I was overjoyed to see they had recorded a live album together. All in all I am very happy with this CD. Many of the tunes are on the trio album I already purchased and were part of the show I saw this spring. They are a mix of originals and tines by Romero's contemporary Toninho Horta who incidentally played on the same bill at the show I saw. These are real guitar showcases with lots of room for blowing. The trio here sounds tight and powerful. They have been playing some of these tunes for a decade or more yet they are not going through the motions here.It is obvious from this performance that they came to Jazz Baltica to kick butt . Of course three are plenty of tender ballad moments as well. The real highlight for me was the added spice of hearing Joe Locke in the mix. Locke is a creative force to be reckoned with on the vibraphone. He seems to spark the trio on the tunes he appears on, and contributes one intriguing original as well. My only gripe with this album is that the recording quality is just fair. The drums lack the punch I would like to hear, and the overall sound is a bit smeared and dull sounding. Nonetheless, while this may not be the best sounding live recording I have ever heard it is still a worthy addition to any brazilian music fan's collection. Go for it."
Almost didn't happen

"An interesting anecdote about this CD -- it almost didn't happen. I was at that particular concert. At the break before this act came on, a very powerful thunderstorm started passing through the area. The festival music director told the crowd that the session would be recorded but added that if there was too much noise due to thunder, they probably wouldn't make the CD. Fortunately, while there was a gentle patter of rain on the roof, there were no claps of thunder, and today we have this CD."
