CD ReviewsSuperb David Saemann | 01/14/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is outstanding Liszt playing, captured in gorgeous sound from George Lucas's Skywalker Sound studios. Chiu has the technical demands of this music well in hand, but that is almost the least of his accomplishments. He idenitifies so completely with Liszt's musical language that you feel as though you are looking into the heart of the composer. Chiu has contributed an excellent program note to the album. He is a fine writer. As for some of the highlights of the disc, the Petrarch Sonnets are greatly expressive and lyrical, No. 104 being especially fine and sensitive. The Dante Sonata receives a big boned performance, filled with drama and majesty. The second movement of Venezia e Napoli is appropriately spooky and dark. There are quite a few fine versions of this music, but it would be very hard to overlook Frederic Chiu's."
