A Snorting Good Laugh
"Tee" | LA | 10/23/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Lily Tomlin recorded three classic comedy albums for Polydor in the early 1970's winning a Grammy award for THIS IS A RECORDING and earning nominations for both AND THAT'S THE TRUTH and MODERN SCREAM. Since that time Lily has concentrated on films and acting and regrettably has made no further albums other than a late 70's release based on her Broadway show. Lily's humor is wacky and clean and yet hip and surprisingly quite often insightful. The tracks from RECORDING feature Lily's greatest character, the snorting, sarcastic telephone operator from hell Ernestine. The TRUTH tracks are of precocious little five-and-half year old Edith Ann and the new neighbor (also played by Lily) whom she hounds. I actually feel AND THAT'S THE TRUTH is Lily's most hilarious album - I've owned a copy for 30 years and I still laugh my head off just thinking about some of little Edith's wisecracks and comments. These are wonderful albums and it's a shame neither has been released on CD in America. I've never owned a copy of MODERN SCREAM, which features a whole slew of Lily's famous TV characters, the original album did not attract the attention or sales of her first two releases but judging by these samples included on this CD, it's a classic. For sheer laughter and good humor, Lily is right up there with Lucille Ball as a hilarious intrepreter of the foibles of life. And that's the truth!"
She's a very entertaining personality

"I've always loved Lily Tomlin and her special characters. Until now, I had only seen them on video (as I would love to see this one) but I put that CD in my car today and she made my drive so much more pleasurable. All of her characters are good but Ernestine and Edith Anne can come to my house anytime. They are hilarious. I can't wait to play it for my husband the next time we're stuck in the car together. If this ever comes out on DVD, I will definitely buy it."
