CD Reviews

A Wonderful, Sweeping Score
01/09/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I bought Mansfield Park completely on whim and chance. I haven't even seen the film yet but I liked what I heard in the trailer and other previews. This score has beautiful orchestration it it, with special attention placed it the strings section. Many parts of the cd remind me of the score to to the film Jude. This is a much better pick than Shakespeare in Love or other current popular film scores but not as good as Sense and Sensibility, my all time favorite. This composer is one to watch for and I thoroughly recomend this cd to lovers of sweeping film scores that go beyond "oh this is pretty" and long for ones of substance. I just hope the film in as great as the music."
An Excellent Movie Score!
12/07/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"One of the many things I admired about the movie 'MANSFIELD PARK' was how beautiful the score was. The score stands out, is very original, very beautiful-and at the same time fits the film perfectly. Lesley Barber uses Piano heavily, with swells of orchestra, which is very affecting. Stand Out Tracks are: Mansfield Park ,Fireworks,I Missed You , and Through The Rain. I would definantly say that this is one of the best film scores of the year, and that this composer is one to watch. Oh- and go see the film!"
Simple Minimalist Beauty
John D. Dooley | Southern California United States | 01/19/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Have you ever thought if you could write a simple piano piece that would always move you, what would it sound like? Look no further. The music from the film "Mansfield Park" is haunting beautiful, yet so simple, if you could see the notes of the score, even a beginner could play it & impress everyone. At times this simple core moves on to classic heights yet never loses its innocence. There is also the water glass harmonic section which is rather unique. Another highlight is the "lost in a dream while the Uncle reveals all your defects" section which drones you with its penning doom. The last song "Djonga (Slavery)" reveals the freedom which most of the characters finally attain. Try this CD if your a Movie Theme collector or into Classic Minimalism."
