Synopsis

Album Description
Seven complete operas starring the great Maria Callas! Seven great live opera recordings at budget price in one space-saving set, featuring a twenty-four-page booklet with biographies, detailed listings, and historic photos! Exciting live recordings taped 1954-1964. Perhaps no name in all of opera history is more familiar than that of Maria Callas (1923-1977), who in the 1950s became the first real "superstar" in opera since Enrico Caruso a quarter of a century before. At the peak of her career, Callas astonished all hearers with the power and accuracy of her runs, staccatos, and trills. Her uniquely distinctive voice was equal to the most challenging music, and she imbued every phrase with dramatic potency. These imperishable performances are among the greatest ever put to disc, and are now available at the lowest price ever!

A Great Way To Start Your Callas "Live" Collection
T. Dissinger | Jacksonville, AL USA | 01/31/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I really have nothing to complain about with this set. Yes, you get the thin plastic disc sleeves and no librettos, but at this price who cares? The sound quality is on par with the rest of my 50's Callas boots AND you get what might be among some of her best live performances (the 1955 Berlin LUCIA and the June 1955 La Scala NORMA) not to mention her only recording of CHENIER. Highly recommended if you need to fill in some gaps cheaply or want to start collecting her live material."
