CD Reviews

Larry Adler at his very best

"Larry Adler was the first and perhaps the greatest classical harmonica soloist. This album is definitely my favorite. Originally recorded around the early sixties, this album captures Adler when he was still at his peak without the time constraints imposed by earlier recording technologies. It is truly a must-have album. This CD contains seven selections, including several Adler signature tune; "Rhapsody In Blue", Ravel's "Bolero" and Enesco's "Roumanian Rhapsody". Also included are Chagrin's "Roumanian Rhapsody", Granados "Spanish Dance", Benjamin's "Jamaician Rhumba" and Bizet's "Carmen Suites". Adler depth of feeling and technical wizardy showcase the harmonica as an instrument not to be sneered at. In his hands, the lowly harmonica became the equal of the finest Stradivarius.I often used selections from this CD to introduce newcomers to the instrument, it is easily capable of destroying any preconceptions a person might have as to the limitations of the harmonica. No collection of harmonica recordings would be complete without having this included."

"My father has parkinsons disease and he plays his harmonica to this CD which keeps his vocol cords active so he can still talk at 86. Wonderful CD too.
