I am a creator...

"Ray Davies was on a run of incredible productivity by the mid-Seventies but unfortunately the quality of several of these concept albums was not always up to par. `Soap Opera', which was based on another originally for television idea called `Starmaker', was a case in point as Ray seemed less interested in rock n' roll than in pursuing musical theater. Not that there isn't anything worthwhile in `Soap Opera' but I think with a couple of listens even the most bias Kinks fan would not shower this LP with praise. "Starmaker" the song is a decent opener and "Rush Hour Blues" is decent but there really isn't much else to recommend. "Holiday Romance" which was single, hard to believe, is amusing and "Face in the Crowd" is the best ballad but there you go. Norman and the Starmaker may have been amusing to see in mid- 1975 but if that was all the band played live, I would have been furious. Many Kinks fans may have felt this consternation as well but the rest of band wasn't all that enthused about this period either. Ray Davies is a genius but like many genius he tended to get carried away. Not all the Seventies concept records stink though, the follow up to `Soap Opera' would be much better."
Unique and really cool

"It's excellent! Great for a change of pace - I listen to music all day long in my office and this is always refreshing to add to the mix. I don't think Ray Davies is capable of creating anything other than greatness!"
If you are a Kinks fan, this Cd is a must have

"I was annoyed by this record when it first came out. Ray Davies was doing this rock opera thing on most of the Kinks records of this time period and it was always about the perils of stardom. Here in the new millennium, things are a bit stranger than they were in those times and I begin to see what Ray Davies was actually getting at.

There are more than a few wonderful Kinks songs on here to save your day and after all, if you are a Kinks fan, this just needs to be in your collection. If you are wary, buy a clean used copy. Then, buy a brand spankin' new copy for your new girlfriend who just might love the Kinks and together you both can sing along with the Davies brothers and pray for just one more band reunion!"
