Not a bad song in the bunch

"i had not heard the kevin gibbs trio before until a friend gave me this album; it is one of the better christmas albums i have heard and one of the very best jazz albums; i echo the praise for gibbs's version of "have yourself a merry little christmas," but there are no weak songs on this cd. "god rest ye merry gentlemen" and "silent night" and "greensleeves" are also strong.



a few of the songs have long versions which is especially nice because you get to hear the trio exhibit their jazz chops, which are formidable. the recording and sound quality is also very good, especially so for a cd from the late '80's or early '90's. the cover may be sort of plain, but don't let that fool you -- some of the best christmas presents come wrapped in plain red and green paper.



people tend to accumulate a lot more christmas albums these days and if you collect them or want a good mainstream jazz trio yuletide treat to add to your christmas cd collection, i definitely recommend you get this one."
