Synopsis

Product Description
Kenny Dorham and Joe Henderson recorded six albums for Blue Note between April 1963 and September 1964. This CD presents a previously unknown broadcast that predates the pair's Blue Note collaborations. In January 1963, the Dorham-Henderson quintet appeared at The Flamboyan. Located in Queens and named after the casino in Puerto Rico, the club was only open for about a year, but the music lives on.

CD Reviews

Newly unearthed treasure sparkles, una mas.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This radio broadcast (Alan Grant broadcasting on WRFM and WWRL 1600 AM) from a long since defunct club from a bygone era rises right to the top of the Kenny Dorham catalog. Kenny had lost his cabaret card due to drugs, and had to play outside Manhattan, Queens being a couple of subway stops away, the faithful were treated to some vintage hardbop. Now we can all enjoy. Kenny Dorham (t), Joe Henderson (ts), Ronnie Mathews (p), Steve Davis (b), J.C. Moses (d). Recording quality is well above average. If you enjoy other Dorham/Henderson recordings, this should be in your bag."
