CD Reviews

When dance music was great
John Alapick | Wilkes-Barre, PA United States | 09/13/2010
(4 out of 5 stars)

"KC & The Sunshine Band was one of the premier disco groups of the 1970's and this collection of their greatest hits stands up pretty well. "(Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty", "Get Down Tonight", "That's the Way (I Like It)", "Keep It Comin' Love", and "I'm Your Boogie Man" were all monster hits and possessed great hooks, beats, and choruses. And they're still catchy as hell. Lower charting singles such as "Sound Your Funky Horn", "Do You Wanna Go Party", "I Like to Do It", and "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" are also very catchy with their snappy horns and bass lines. Other good tunes here include "Queen of Clubs", "Boogie Shoes" (which would also be featured on the super popular Saturday Night Fever soundtrack), and "Shotgun Shuffle". KC's 1983 solo hit "Give It Up" is also here and would have probably an even bigger hit if it was released 5 years earlier. The ballad "Please Don't Go", a slow ballad that would be their last #1 hit, and "Let's Go Rock and Roll" haven't aged as well. All told, if you still long for the days when dance music was great, The Best of KC & The Sunshine band is your pleasure."
