A Love Song To Mexico...& A Fabulous Collection Of Ballads!
Jana L. Perskie | New York, NY USA | 07/04/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

""A Mexico" is a combination of my favorite collection of Mexican ballads, and one of my favorite Julio Iglesias CDs. What wonderful music! Iglesias' dramatic, lush style is so well suited to these poignant ballads of love, loss, and nostalgia, as well as to the traditional Mexican songs on the CD. One of the major pluses in this selection, is that Iglesias chose many boleros and ballads by the brilliant Mexican composer, Agustin Lara. You can't go wrong with Lara's music. He was a deeply inspired composer; a man in love with love, and in love with music. Who better to interpret his work than Julio Iglesias? The very beautiful "Noche de Ronda," "Maria Bonita," and "Solamente Una Vez," are all Lara compositions, and movingly sung here. "Cucurrucucu Paloma" is pure Mexico and extraordinary! "De Un Mundo Raro" is an exquisite cut, and "No Me Amenaces," and "Ella" are oldies but goodies with a Julio interpretation. I thoroughly recommend this unusual collection! Enjoy!"
JULIO IGLESIAS- "A MEXICO"

"This great album is among his early recordings of the mid 70's which gave Julio international fame and preference. Julio gave these classic romantic mexican boleros and rancheras the unique romantic style that characterizes his voice, which isn't exactly powerful but with great melody and feeling. This CD is a must have for all Julio fans and collectors!"
A masterpiece

"This was the first Julio album I heard back in 1983. I learnt a lot of Spanish from it. It is a wonderful collection of soulful, exquisite music. I recommend it without reservation, the songs are classic, most written by a famous Mexican songwriter. I have bought it in album format, cassette and now CD format. It is a treasure."
