CD Reviews

A terrific country offering! Among Juice Newton's very best!
Invisiboy2001 | Chicago, IL United States | 08/25/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD is probably as close as Juice Newton ever got to releasing a "country" album. The album was scorned by the record label after Newton left her contract--so it was not promoted at all and only charted one single, Newtopn's final Top-40 hit to date: "When Love Comes Around The Bend." The album's finest moments are "Love Is the Only Chain" (an exemplary contemporary folk recording) and "I'm Only Walkin'" (an earthy folk track, later covered by Bette Midler to lesser effect).

Other great tracks include: "Goin' To Work", "The Moment You Were Mine", "(And) Then He Kissed Me" (Newton's spirited country-rock remake of the '60s smash by The Crystals), "You're Making It Easy", "Ain't Gonna Cry No More" and the Otha Young-penned "Say You'll Be Mine".

This CD is sure to please fans of progressive country music, as well as fans of this fine vocalist."
My favorite Juice album

"Juice was red-hot in the early eighties, with several major hits on both the pop and country charts in America. By the time this album was released in 1990, it seems that all but her most loyal fans had lost interest. Thus, this masterpiece went largely ignored. The album opens with the upbeat When love comes around the bend, a modest country hit that might have been a big hit if properly promoted. Going to work is a feisty song about a woman's role in modern society. Then he kissed me is a cover of the old Crystals classic - the Phil Spector wall of sound being replaced with a contemporary country sound, which works brilliantly. I'm only walking is a Cheryl Wheeler song that has since been covered by Bette Midler, though they both used the title I know this town. Say you'll be mine shows Juice at her rocking best. The rest of the album is filled with brilliant ballads of the type that Juice is so good at.Despite the excellence of her earlier albums, this is my favorite Juice album. If you enjoy Juice's music, you may disagree with my assessment that this is her best album but you will surely enjoy it."
Fantastic CD!

"Juice Newton is a fantastic country singer! I'm so glad that I found this album on CD(I have a very worn tape tape)! These are probably her best songs that she has done. If you like Juice Newton, you NEED to get this album!"
