How Do I Love This Album? Let Me Count The Ways...

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Even though words don't exist to adequately praise Jude's songwriting and vocal talent, I'll give it my best shot. This is one of the best albums I've heard in a long, long time. Imaginative composition, intelligent, contemporary lyrics, and a voice that will leave you breathless... From the moment a friend introduced me to Jude's music via a tape of a live performance in 1997, I've been hooked. Listen to this CD, and you will be, too. Every time I loan this (or Jude's other album, "No One Is Really Beautiful) to a friend, it "disappears". I almost have to lock up my copies when people come over. Sexy, smart, funny, touching... Thanks, Jude! P.S. If you like this one, check out his newest CD: No One Is Really Beautiful. It offers even more mind-blowing music guaranteed to leave you begging for more."
What a range...

"Jude's music is pure magic. The songs, and his performance of them, are bursting with brilliance and depth, and lacking any form of pretention. Having been in vocal training for many years, I can name countless people who would kill to have Jude's vocal range and his unparalleled ability to use it effectively. Never bland, yet, never contrived, Jude's vocal talents have no equal. Buy every CD he puts out. Take every possible opportunity to hear this man sing!"
Oh yeah, sing it, Jude...

"Oh yes. I am a huge Jude freak- This earlier CD is an excellent album, with wonderful tracks. There's only one song that I don't enjoy, "Paper Towel," and that's what keeps it from getting a five star review. However, the rest of the CD is pure magic. Jude's clear, beautiful voice and wonderful guitar skills are prevelant all through it, and he has a way with lyrics- If someone else was singing what he wrote, I don't think that they'd sound nearly as good as him. My personal favorite song on this CD at the moment would have to be "I Will Not Die." It, like the rest of the CD, has the odd "depressed but you're not going to keep me down" air to it, but it's so much more. It's almost an anthem for the guy, I think. With lyrics such as "It only hurts me when I'm awake/ It seems to die with dreaming/ And there's only so much that I can fake/ When my whole life's careening down," you begin to really see that the guy's a bit on the... Well, slightly crazy (and quite possibly SEVERELY depressed) side. But he conveys these feelings so well that you don't WANT things to go right for him.So, here's to Jude, and his weird and obviously flawed ... life! Sing on!"
