CD ReviewsShould be More Popular! 04/07/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "Johnny "Guitar" Watson should be in the history books of blues guitar. His style is so unique and chock full of personality. He is a gifted songwriter and musician. Musicians who claim him as an influence include, Jimmie Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa and many more. He started as a teenager playing blues and R&B and turned into a serious funk-miester in the 70's and coninued in this vein until his death a few years ago. Everything he does is good although blues purists shy away from the funk/commercial output. My opinion is that it is all good. This CD is a good primer on his early music. Enjoy gems as "Too Tired," "Lookin Back" and two jams with Shuggie Otis. A must for blues guitar afficionados."
