CD Reviews

Janie Fricke got her breakthrough via Johnny
Peter Durward Harris | Leicester England | 05/09/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Johnny Duncan was a good traditional country singer with a few good country hits between 1973 and 1978, but he will forever be remembered as the man who gave Janie Fricke her breakthrough. This collection features the four hits on which Janie sang - Thinking of a rendezvous, It couldn't have been any better (both country number ones), Stranger and Come a little bit closer (a cover of the American sixties pop hit by Jay and the Americans, which sounds even better by Johnny and Janie). Sometimes, Janie only sings a couple of lines, while others are full-blown duets.Johnny had a third country number one without Janie - She can put her shoes under my bed anytime - and several other big country hits, many of them to be found here, including Hello Mexico, Slow dancing, Sweet country woman, The lady in the blue Mercedes and A song in the night, all of which reached the country top ten. Although this particular compilation is now out of print, all the tracks I've mentioned can be found on the 10-track budget CD Pure country, while every track here can be found on the more recent full-length CD It couldn't have been any better, which includes extra tracks. These include Johnny and Janie doing a lovely duet version of Michael Jackson's She's out of my life. So don't worry about this particular CD being unavailable."
One of the greatest voices.

"Johnny has put out some of the most beautiful songs, he can hold his own with anyone past or present. When he sings with Janie Frikie they run shivers up my spine, they were made to sing together they have made some of the best duets of all time."
CLASSIC (and Wonderful) VOICE
Lila D. Gayton | Jacksonville, Florida | 08/05/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have all these songs on various albums & I would love to update my collection to CDs. There is no better singing voice to my ears & I miss his recordings in this day & time. I'm hoping you will get this back in stock for those of us who remember when listening to music was a pleasant experience! I can't get too much of THIS Johnny Duncan. (Different from the one on The Last Train To San Fernando -- I wish there was a way to separate the two of them--One is Country the other Blue Grass). Hurry, cause my records are about worn out! Thanx! Lila Gayton in Jacksonville, Florida (By the way, I remember getting a response out of Johnny when I put my shoes on the stage while he sang, "She Can Put Her Shoes Under My Bed, Anytime!)"
