CD Reviews

BEWARE OF DEFECTIVE DISC
Howard Milton | Oro Valley, AZ USA | 10/13/2004

"Typical of most all of Johnny Cash's work, this set covers the period 1963-1969 and is excellent. However not typical of Bear Family's quality control, there is a defect in the last track (#27) on the 5th disc which will cause the disc to repeat/skip at about 1 minute 45 seconds. It must be in most of the pressings becasue I got a replacement disc, and the defect is on my replacement disc as well.

Quality control problems on Bear Family products are rare, but this box set contains one of those mistakes.

Worth the Cash

"What can be said about the Bear Family "Man in Black Series"? Only that I wish they'd prod beyond 1969. This set, six discs, including a live concert, is well worth buying. I'm listening to Cash's performance at the Newport Folk Festival, which is a real treat. Guitars, bass, and voice. Can't say enough about this collection."
Some of Cash's best material is on this box set!

"Ring Of Fire is probably one of the all time classics that Johnny has ever recorded. Of course it was written by his beloved wife June Carter and Merle Kilgger. There are quite a few surprises on this set which I know you will really get a kick out of. Disc 2 is the most humorouss CD out of this box set as it features Johnny's helarious album Everybody Loves A Nut. There is also a song on there called Bad News which you hear Johnny laughing and giggling throughout the song an when he let out that huge snort, I almost fell of my chair laughing! Johnny had such a pleasant nse of humour it's so sad that he isn't with us anymore. I highly recommend every single Man In Black box set of Cash and also his western albums available on the set Come Along And Ride This Train. I hope Bear Family will release a box set of his 70's and 80's work."
