CD Reviews

Latin meets machine

(4 out of 5 stars)

"The remixers and creators who contributed to this disc did not attempt to transfer the entire body of Afro-Cuban/Brazilian music into electronica, which is the usual M.O. for this type of project. Instead, they pulled out certain elements, at will not at random, from each of those paradigms in a unique fashion. It's equally easy to listen and dance to this album. To cap it off, Ubiquity gradually faded out the electronics, starting with the downtempo, melodic "Tristesea", and continuing through to the creative original "Picadillo", which has definite Eddie Palmieri modal descarga vibes, to the original "Welcome to the Party" - think of a Brazilian escola da samba operating in California in the early 1970s."
