Synopsis

Album Description
50/50 BAND FEATURING THE MUSIC OF JOHN E. MAGNAN *Melody*Searing Horns*Hot Percussion*Fun*Groove*Dance*Sing Along! The streets of Chicago play many types of natural melodies. They bend like the notorious wind that rips across a winter lake, or are subtle, like the first hint of a spring breeze. The music of Chicago bassist/vocalist/composer/arranger and lyricist John E. Magnan is like the sounds of the city. Magnan is like a troubadour going from neighborhood to neighborhood performing in the language of each. A performing artist for over 30 years, on the road and in Chicago, always a creator of original music in rock/Latin/jazz and pop forms, co-founder of Foxfire, the first musical group to bring signed lyrics for the hearing impaired to the performance stage, and Silent Sounds, Inc., Magnan is all about the music. Of all the records that Magnan has appeared on, ?50/50 Band? is the closest to his musical essence. Many of the tracks showcase John?s melodic gift for original composition. Longtime Chicago percussion ace Alejo Poveda gets producer?s credit for this project. Other members include a virtual ?who are the cats? on the Chicago scene with Joanie Pallatto sharing lead vocals, Bob Long, Mark Olsen, Ruben Alvarez, Jose Gregorio, Steve Eisen, April Aloisio, Elijah Levi, Ron Cooper, and Pennington McGee. Check out the urban coolness of track 1, ?Goodbye Mambo,? with searing vocals by Pallatto. Feel the joy in Magnan's vocal, track 4, ?Short Lament.? Musical forms collide in track 10, ?On The Verge,? with hints of East 47th St. in Bronzeville?s heyday. This is not a ?one-track? or mode CD. Songs scan style and form as if we are racing through the brain of John E. Magnan. ?50/50 Band? asks the question, is the world ready for something new, wonderful and fun?
