CD Reviews

Vastly underrated

(4 out of 5 stars)

"I agree with one of the reviewers. ECM's decision not to produce the Quartet's three recordings is odd. This is understated music for sure, but Abercrombie's playing and writing is superb on all three. I generallly prefer his guitar sound in this phase of his career to its later incarnations. On these recordings it's haunting and lyrical and imaginative. I miss it."

"Where did this gem go? I still own the album but there's not much left of the twenty year old vinyl. I have been looking for the cd release of this sparkling set since the beginning of CD manufacture. The music on this disc sends chills climbing up my spine and tears rolling down my face. The players are tremendous. The music is timeless. I just can't possibly describe the splendor held between the beginning and end of this disc. I could listen to this music every day and never tire of its beauty. I can't believe the music loving public has not demanded the release of this recording. Of course, as an American living in the U.S., I have to go halfway round the world to find a copy from Japan. Thank you good people of Amazon.com for making this gorgeous music available to me again. I highly recommend this disc to anyone who can stand to wait two months to get it."

"Everybody seems to have forgotten that the short lived John Abercrombie Quartet put out two other LPs: John Abercrombie Quartet and M. They may not be five star albums but pretty close.
And how does this business work anyway? Not even the ECM website posts this forgotten masterpiece."
