Synopsis

Product Description
"The performances are dazzling." - Rick Kogan, Chicago Tribune "Two takes a fresh approach to material as varied as Bacharach to Brazil to the Beatles." - Peter Coppock, Radio Host - from KJZZ "Two Again" with Joanie Pallatto & Marshall Vente: One Voice and One Piano create song treasures from Bacharach to Brazil to the Beatles with a jazz sensibility. Since the beginning of jazz and pop music artists have presented their own versions of high profile classic and obscure hidden treasures. Chicago pianist/arranger Marshall Vente joins forces with Chicago vocalist/producer Joanie Pallatto in a new collection of 15 songs that include 2 originals. Pallatto's exquisite vocals are wrapped in the lush and creative arrangements of pianist Vente as he strokes the keys of the Baldwin SD-10 9' concert grand creating his own personal orchestra. No style of music is left alone as the CD opens with Lennon & McCartney's "Help!" And yes, The Beatles do swing! Traces of urban soul sizzle with track #2, "People Make The World Go Round." Pallatto and Vente pay respect to composer Jimmy Webb on track #4 with their ethereal version of "By The Time I Get To Phoenix." These are just 3 of the 15 songs on this CD!!! Described by Rick Kogan of the Chicago Tribune as having "a stirring and special voice," Joanie Pallatto has released fifteen CDs, and has performed at many Chicago jazz clubs, the Chicago Jazz Festival, and was a featured soloist with Daniel Barenboim in "Ellington Among Friends" at Symphony Center in 1999. She is co-founder of Southport Records with partner and piano man Bradley Parker-Sparrow. For over 40 years Marshall Vente has been a force on the Chicago music scene, and is known for his bold and lush sound. Soon after launching his famed Project 9, a jazz nonet, Vente received two consecutive National Endowment for Arts Jazz Apprenticeships with David Matthews and Gil Evans, '82-87. From his collaborations with bassist/vocalist Eldee Young to his Tropicale ensemble, Vente's radio show "Jazz Tropicale" can be heard every Sunday on WDCB 90.9 fm. Southport Records was founded in Chicago in 1977 as an independent voice for new music from Chicago to a world audience. There are over 141 projects in print. Real Music Made In Chicago.
