One of Texas' Best Kept Secrets
W. Langan | the end of the world to your town! | 07/22/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Jim Shannon may be one of Texas' best kept secrets. I had never heard of him myself until one Saturday afternoon at a local mall in Plano. He and his band (a trio featuring himself, a double bass player and an extroverted drummer/vibe player named Jim Massoud) had me and other onlookers impressed. The band even had young kids dancing and getting into it! I got this CD and they were nice enough to sign it!Although Jim's music is generally classified as jazz, he has elements of Latino (as on "Foerver In the Wind," "Spiral" and "Silent Voices") and blues (as on "Bluesology," "Free Flight" and "Blue Eyes") blended in with it. He also covers standards like "Like Someone in Love" and "Once in a While." In addition to his versatility on guitar, he's also a music teacher at Brookhaven and El Centro College. If you get the chance to see Mr. Shannon in your area, go for it! You'll be in for a big surprise!"
