CD Reviews

EXCELLENT - Bravisimo! Dare you not to shake your body!!

"I happened onto this young artist while on an American Airlines plane. They had a recording of his playing in a loop with some biography information mixed in. I was "hooked" on the first track! I wanted to jump up and dance right in the aisles! I love it for the same reason one of the reviewers hated it (I mean really how can something sound "too Latin"?) - Javier takes traditional sounds and rhythms and mixes it with a bit of hip hop and even rap. It's a blend that honors all styles and leaves you wanting more. I just can't say enought about this singer/songwriter/artist. He's a talent yet to be discovered in the mainstream, but I'm doing my best to spread the word - Javier Garcia deserves it. If you're considering this purchase, you need only sample the sounds on amazon. This is one of the very few CD's where I love more than half the songs. Worth every penny. Hope you like it too!

The bounciest, most exhilarating album

"In the piles and piles of recently-released CDs on my desk, every year or so I seem to find one that makes me feel really excited about my job and about the future of Latin music. So far this year 13 is that CD. Javier García (along with Gustavo Santaolalla) has put together the bounciest, most exhilarating album I've heard in the past few years (probably since Manú Chao's Proxima Estación: Esperanza.) You can tell García had a blast playing around with almost every Latin rhythm there is, fusing son, rock, bolero, ska, calipso, rap, flamenco, etc. En fin, this is a well-rooted Caribbean-flavored album with a modern twist that also features Cuban trumpet player Arturo Sandoval and Paul McCartney's drummer Abe Laboriel Jr."
The wait was worth it!

"Altough it took soooo long before we finally could listen to new music of Javier Garcia. His album of 1997 has a prominent place in my Latin popcollection (Ricky Martin, Juanes, Robi Draco Rosa, Jorge Moreno, Alejandro Sanz, Mana, Carlos Vives, Santana and much more) and "13" will have that too.

The first impression is ...great, dancable caribean music.. At first I missed the slow, jazzy songs with those typical Javier sounds, but taking more time to listen i decided: it's all there. The music has more "modern" sounds like rap, well i am not good in putting names on music. I just know i am totally hooked on this album since i have it and it has the right mix of various styles to keep me interested for a long time!
