Her second CD is really good but not up to par with the first. I only recently discovered this 3rd one from 1993, and I think it is the best of the 3. Her site says she's been in the studio recently (2007) and has recorded at least one song, so hopefully we'll get more great stuff from her soon.
There's something so special about her that I'm amazed her music hasn't taken off as it should. Prince loved her first CD as did a lot of big name black performers. She claims her influences range from the Ramones to rap, although I don't hear the rap influence in her music at all. She's got a very powerful voice, classical piano training, and did ALL the music on at least the first CD herself. She's great on the synthesizer. There's a power in her music that I especially love. Don't know why this CD is $50 when the MP3 download is $8.99; it's a mystery! I particularly love "Almost Beautiful", the first song on "Surge." More Jane, we want more! We love you! " |
