Synopsis

Album Description
2010 release. During the 18th century, the Dresden court orchestra developed into a model example of music cultivation important throughout Europe - and the ensemble is closely associated with the names of composers like Zelenka, Heinichen and Hasse. However, one man stands out who played a crucial role in the orchestra`s development during the second half of the 1700s although the name did seem consigned to oblivion for a long time: Johann Gottlieb Naumann (1741-1801), church compositeur and Kapellmeister at the court of electoral prince August III. Under Peter Kopp, the Neue K"rnerscher Sing-Verein has devoted its attentions to the first recording of two masses written by Naumann, demonstrating that these compositions are of a high musical standard and without a doubt, this production helped make a major contribution to the renaissance of Naumann`s works.
