CD Reviews

Great inexpensive collection of hard-to-find tracks

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This Italian production of hard-to-find Ivan Rebroff tracks is a great value! It contains 11 tracks that are available nowhere else currently, as well as having mostly good tracks from other CDs.Tracks 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, 19 & 20 are from the great LP "Memories of Russia", all but two appearing for the first time on CD (that I'm aware of). Tracks 12 & 20 are available on the hard-to-find "The Very Best of Ivan Rebroff" CD.Tracks 7 & 15 are from the LP "Ivan Rebroff". "Lara's Theme" is available elsewhere, but this is the first appearance on CD of "Bublitschki" that I'm aware of. "Bublitschki" is a great piece that I've been looking for on CD for a while now.Tracks 4, 5, 11 & 13 are all from the "Crowning of a Great Career" CD. They are not among my favorites, except for the lovely "Suliko".The title track is probably the best version available, though this version is available on at least 3 other CDs that I know of.Track 2 ("Two Guitars") is a nice casual version, with two guitars providing the accompaniment. Very sweet.Track 3 is a nice version. This is the version with the acapella beginning, which is hard to find, only found elsewhere on the "Russiche Seele" CD.Track 9 is, I believe, the same as on the "All The Best/Kalinka Malinka" CD. A good version, though not my favorite.Track 18 is not one I'm familiar with, though I guess that means that this is the only place to get it from. A very melancholy song with a solo guitar accompaniment. As with the "Stenka Rasin" CD, I found a few channel dropouts and/or distortion (tracks 18 & 20).All tracks are in Russian. Nice picture CD, liner notes (in English) consist of a listing of Mr. Rebroff's accomplishments, nothing in particular about these specific tracks. In my opinion, this very inexpensive CD is full (68:40) of hard to get tracks, most of which are very good, and is a very good choice to buy.(Note: This review was posted by mistake on the "Stenka Rasin" CD also.)"
