"if you like music with a HEAVY injection of blues and a LARGE dose of reverb then this band is for you. THEE HYPNOTICS are a british band that harken back to the days of psychadelic rock side of the sixties filled with swirling layers of grunge against crahing drums. ray hanson is one of the most gifted guitar players i have ever heard. he makes my hair stand on end when he plays and james jones has vocals that have been touched by the gods. the music is dark, dense, moody and prone to working up to an intense pitch only to slide back down to catch its breath so it can swing over to some other shadowy area. the problem i have with this album is that it is not cohesive. one second your in awe of the playing and the next your wondering what the heck they are doing. since this is the first album i would chalk it up to learning b.c later albums REALLY explode with emotion and style. chris robinson of the black crowes found this band and i hoped they would grow a little b/c they really can rock. will pepper is a great bass player who holds the rhythm down. unfortunately this band cannot hold drummers as they have seen a handful come and go. i believe phil smith plays on this album and he does a fine job of keeping the beat with flair and style while providing the listener with some funky fills to add to the mix. all in all a worthy choice of band but i would start with later albums before going here."
