Alfven is a diamond in the romantic rough

"All fans of the romantic symphonic genre owe it to themselves to purchase all 5 of the BIS recordings of Hugo Alfven. It is a shame that his music is so neglected in performance today. His writing is a blend of Mahler, Strauss, Sibelius, Dvorak, Tchiakowsky, etc. The performance of the Stockholm Philharmonic and Neeme Jarvi are superb. From the moment I found these recordings and heard them I was instantly in love. Alfven quickly became one of my favorite composers as a result. Do yourself a favor and give him a chance, I sincerely doubt that you will be disappointed."
