CD Reviews

I love A CAPELLA!
Sandy Hutchinson | New York, NY 10031 | 05/18/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It is gutsy for an a capella group to sing a song that everyone knows simply because they run the risk of not doing such popular songs justice. However, EVERY SINGLE song on BOCA is just as wonderful to listen to as the original song, instruments and all. My personal favorite is Emory University's male a capella group's (No Strings Attached) version of "Daniel" by Elton John. I was a little nervous to hear this song because it is one of my favorites. But, the soloist, David Fountain, does an amazing job. I've listened to this song 46 times in a row (no joke). I do love the CD, but listening to David "Elton" Fountain alone is enough to make me buy it. Do yourself a favor and get this CD!"
This one is not like the other BOCAs.

"Well. I've listened different versions of BOCA, but this one is the worst BOCA. I truly loved other BOCAs, but weirdly, I only like a few songs in this CD. I would rather recommend other BOCAs than this one."
Eclectic

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This installment of BOCA departs from the usual all-pop all-alternative format, offering songs from both these genres but also including selections from the realms of country, Hindi, jazz, and 70s. That makes it perhaps not very unified as an album, but the tracks as individuals are extremely well done. Some faves: Snow on the Sahara (Stanford Harmonics), Anything But Down (U Penn Off the Beat), Windmills (Middlebury College Dissipated Eight), Take to the Sky (Dartmouth Dodecaphonics), That's the Way... (Tufts Beelzebubs), When We Were Kings (Harvard Opportunes). Soloists that rock: the chicks who sing Snow on the Sahara, Anything But Down, and Take to the Sky.
As a great sampler of current a cappella, I totally recommend this cd."
