The Shifties are Back!!!
S. James | Atlanta, GA USA | 03/21/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"After a long absence, Heavyshift has come bouncing back even stronger than ever. I first discovered them in 1995 when the jazz station in New York played "101 Degrees in the Shade" from their first US Release "Unchain Your Mind", which in my mind was incomparable and has remained one of my enduring favorites. I was hooked. Since then they faded in to obscurity, at least in America, but I still kept an eye open. Luckily, in 1996 Heavyshift released "The Last Picture Show", a theme record that delivered the kind of groove I'd come to expect from them. Another keeper. Since then, I kept searching amazon periodically, hoping they would re-emerge. Finally, they are back!!It's hard to classify their music because they are so unique, but I would call it acid jazz, with a touch of swing, hip hop and funk. They are anything but boring! Imagine a cocktail party - martnis, comsopolitains, everybody dressed up and looking fashionable. And Heavyshift playing in the background. Excellent saxaphone action, and background keyboard vibes. They are that cool. Totally Groovy, Man!! I was afraid of what to expect after nearly six years between their last release and "The Conversation", but I am once again in awe of this group. Check out "Oxo Cubed" and and "Noodlin' with Mr. Big". Right up there with "From Childbirth to Bingo" from their first release. If you're ready for something new, take the risk and check them out. You'll want to order all of their CDs."
Heavyshift's new CD - The Conversation (2002)

"This CD is pure dynomite! I love these guys. I have their first 2 CDs, but I didn't discover this group until about 2 years ago. I'm glad I didn't have to wait too long for this release, since it's been 6 years since the last one. This whole CD is very well produced, and equals or surpasses their first CD. Go Shifties, keep up the great work. Also, thank you Amazon for carrying this. These guys are very hard to find in record stores."
