One of the best idie rock records ever made...
01/02/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"since I can't honestly say I've heard every single indie recording ever made, I have to say, out of the one's I've heard, this one is way way up there. Heavenly's sound, for the person who's never heard them, is along the lines of the last Lush album (although Heavenly was sounding like this before that album was made). An easier way to describe it would be to say it has compitent guitars, excellent dual female vocals and great lyrics. In the fine tradition of K Records, Calvin Johnson guests on the last song of the album (he also appears on Beck's One Foot in the Grave, which is also out on K). this album is highly highly recomended. thank you. "Usually, I hesitate before hearing a new album. It seems much easier to hear something for a 2nd time for me. So of course, I hesitated before the first listen of 'Operation Heavenly'. At the first song, I was completely okay with hearing the rest of the album for the first time. Because Heavenly is THAT TYPE OF BAND. They rock. Simple. And not the type where they play music just to rock. They rock because they're passionate about it. This album is totally dancable and totally lovable. Don't hesitate to buy it (or listen to it).Songs are yr basic relationship type. But they approach it with heart. On 'Ben Sherman' (my favorite track), she discusses being pressured to sleep with someone who she feels doesn't like her for HER--"When you call my name, it better be me that you want and not anyone else". 'Cut off' is an all-perfect example of what fast punk should be. Her voice is really honest, and smooth as a peice of glass. You can hear her emotion from her voice more than her lyrics, even when she sings in French. In this day and age, I find it we all need this kind of music. This could well pass for pop, actually. Two more words to describe this? Heaven sent."
