Synopsis

Album Description
"HEALTH music can be harsh and grating, of course, but also sensually smooth and sexy and electronic and also metallic and all Fodderstompfy." -- LA Weekly "LA's newest adjunct professors of art punk." -- Skyscraper "Los Angeles' answer to New York's avant garde noise scene." -- CMJ New Music Report By now you're likely familiar with the (barely) contained chaos of HEALTH. The band's debut album (September 2008, Lovepump United) and relentless touring with the likes of Crystal Castles and White Williams has cemented their status as one of the most exciting bands in independent music--publications like XLR8R, The Fader, and Pitchfork agree. In addition to evoking grand hyperboles from every blog under the sun, HEALTH's album inspired several other musicians to match the band's creativity. They reimagined, recut, and remixed, and the result is HEALTH//DISCO. Featuring remixes from Acid Girls, CFCF, Pink Skull, Narctrax, and more, these tracks take HEALTH's ethereal chanting, screeching noise, and gauzy atmosphere and forcefully apply them to the dance floor. The CD also contains an enhanced data portion with even more remixes from The Mae Shi, Captain Ahab, and others.

CD Reviews

Fresh, Loud, Mad

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is the experimental music I love and crave. Each track presents you with something new and ear-lovingly interesting. Drums are the essential element in this album and the most noticeable from track to track. Their unique style, as quoted from their page on wikipedia, is described as "artfully crafted noise and raw synth, haunting monotone vocals, and drum skills that are borderline insane". Vocals play a vague roll throughout the album and combined with the spastic, persistent drumming create a feeling of an ritual chant gone hard noise rock. I found portions of the album to be slightly unlistenable upon first listen but after a couple more they grew appreciatively and fit nicely in with the music. Health pushes the boundaries of conventional music and extends pauses to great lengths, at times blurring the line between tracks. The album is woven seamlessly to give it the feeling of one long track and flows perfectly for listening all the way through or song by song depending on the mood.

If you're looking for something fresh, loud, and slightly insane, this album is for you."
