"this live recording has the feel of a late night jam session. allen takes long, expansive solos, building intensity with each chorus. the band follows allen and plays with reckless abandon. allen owes much stylistically to lester young, zoot sims and stan getz but still has his own voice. this music could be classified as swing, but the feel is more like that of a "50's bop session. if you like your swing with a hard edge this is a great recording."

"One of Harry Allen's very best CDs. Everything just clicked perfectly that May evening at the Amerika Haus in Hamburg. "Limehouse blues" and the title track both swing like mad and are the album's highlights. But there is not a disappointing beat on the whole CD. If you like Allen's playing and you like traditional swing-era standard songs, this CD is a must have item. Highly recommended."
