There are major discoveries here. The Fantasiestücke have never been transfered from 78rpm records before. The Novellette and most of the Lyric Pieces are previously unissued. When considering such a wonderful pianist as Harold Bauer, who made so few recordings, this disc is a great gift. All this music is perfect for Bauer, calling on his lyric abilities and his unobtrusive virtuosity. The way he plays the two Liszt Études, you'd probably never realize how difficult they are; in his hands they just sing. Bauer doesn't provide show-off thrills, which weren't in his nature, but this disc is full of deeply satisfying music-making. --Leslie Gerber

Grieg pieno di poesia semplice e incantevole. Per noi, abituati a pianisti "tecnocrati" e formalisti, un vero dono dal passato..."
