It is dramatically compelling and Harnoncourt's is a thrilling rendition. Listen to the overture. It is played vivace and is edgy and tense. When it is compared to Gardiner's recorded version Harnoncourt's is the one you would turn to for the visceral impact and Gardiner's for poise and an aid to overcoming insomnia (yes, Gardiner will lull you to sleep).
Harnoncourt's Jephtha is a brilliant reading of Handel's superb music drama. I recommend it unreservedly. ." |
