Hidden Talent

"When I first heard from a friend that Gwyneth Paltrow had a song out singing a duet of "Crusing" with Huey Lewis, I didn't believe it. The following morning I saw the video for the song and bought the single within a few days. I loved it. For the next few weeks it was #1 on the Austalian Singles Charts. The song also went to #1 in New Zealand (if you lived there you would understand why!). The followup was "Bette Davis Eyes." Gwyneth Paltrow and her production team had wisely decided to downplay the raunch of Kim Carnes original and exploit Paltrow's gentle yet sultry voice. The result is pleasing with Paltrow giving a "don't take me too seriously, but hey, I didn't do too bad" performance. The song reached the top 20 in Australia. This was much needed validation for Paltrow because this was on the basis of a solo effort, and since hardly anyone saw "Duets" it didn't really owe any sales to the movie. Not only that, but since taking the Oscar for Best Actress in "Shakespear In Love," she was not an Australian favourite as many believed the award belonged to Cate Blanchett. All that is history, but Paltrow has a unique place in Australasian pop culture. A truly hidden talent."
Wow, gwyneth

"Never knew this girl can sing so well. There is a sweet whine in her voice. This is a good single. It has the instrumental and a remix on it. Very good and go gwyneth."
