"This four CD treasure chest of gospel's golden age combines superb song selection, packaging and reproduction with Proper Records amazing bargain pricing. You can quibble about omissions-Marion Williams, The Caravans, only one brilliant flash of Sam Cooke..... (And if that would spur production and another such marvelous set, quibble away!)
I recently picked up Revenant's essential Raw Pre-War Gospel. Together, these collections offer a perfect foundation for any gospel library. Good News indeed!"

"The other reviews posted here say it all. This collection is extraordinary. I bought it because it includes "I'm bound for Canaan Land" by Silas Steele and the Famous Blue Jays, which I had in vinyl and consider to be among the greatest vocal performances on record. The rest of the collection is superb, including rare recordings by R.H. Harris as the original vocalist for the Soul Stirrers and so much else. For $25 you can't find a better set of music--4 full-length CDs of glorious music."
