CD Reviews

THE GITS "Seafish Louisville" A brilliant punk document.
10/09/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Git's fourth album, created with the help of Seattle producer Jack Endino, is an excellent retrospective of the band's short and hard lived recording career. It contains 16 songs. Five are from The Gits early singles (1991) remixed and remastered. Three tunes had never been released. The rest of the material was recorded live to 24 tracks during filming of The Gits for the Seattle music scene documentary film, "Hype!" It is also contains a CDRom with a video, hand written lyrics and live photos of The Gits. The album is remarkably consistant and well produced throughout. It flows with the gritty intensity of a live punk concert without compromising production value. Gits singer Mia Zapata's delivery is raging and honest. She shimmers with personality on stage and in studio. At last we have a comprehensive document of Zapata's innate talent as singer and lyricist, as well as the band that supported her. The Gits were one of the great rock bands of our times, "Seafish Louisville" serves as testament."
One of the best (unknown) punk albums of all time

"Simply brilliant. From the opening chords of Whirlwind to the end of the beautiful and haunting Daily Bread, this album shows how talented The Gits were, and how tragic Mia's premature death really was. She has the vocal power and talent of Janis Joplin, but with a much more rock/punk style. Her voice gives the band a blues feel, but it's just good rock and roll. This album is in my Top Five of all time. That's quite an achievement. This is an album you will never get rid of."
This album will blow you away and my opinion counts

"This album really shows how great the Gits were. Tis my favorite album. This band had so much power and so much melody and mia had such a great voice that that only band I could even compare them too is Nirvana. But wait ... hey, don't get angry here. Let me explain. They don't sound like Nirvana or anything but they are the only other band I have ever heard that sounds so ferocious and so melodical all at the same time and just like Mr. Cobain, Mia has got a stand out amazing voice. They're one of those bands where there just wasnt a flaw. If not for Mia being murdered they would probably have gotten huge. If you don't like the Nirvana comparison then fine but you'll like the album."
