CD Reviews

Smoky, Sultry Blues
P. Tyler Pearson | Deep in The Rockies | 04/01/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I consider myself a music fan. I'm also a believer in a difference between good and bad music. I've been in several arguments where someone will make the comment that "there is no such thing as bad music...everything is relative." That person must have never heard of Rockwell. At any rate, I believe that the true mark of a good musician is the way they sound on stage....in their element. That is why local musicians and indie rockers are so pure. They are good live musicians.Gigi Love is an example of a phenomenal live musician who knows how to put out a good studio representation of her live sound. There is no attempt to throw in extra noise to make the songs sound "better." There's just Gigi and an acoustic guitar. Tracks like "Mercy" and "Ode to Kurt Cobain" will entrance you with their slow, sultry, bluesy grit. In fact, "Mercy" had an extensive stint at the #1 spot in the Blues Top 40 on mp3.com a number of years ago. "Addiction to Love" will have you bobbing your head and slapping your steering wheel, imagining yourself driving a '73 pickup truck down a dusty Iowa road on the way to the state fair.A loose comparison could be drawn to Sheryl Crow. Eliminate the commercial distraction in Crow's songs and warp her back to 1992 and you'd have a tighter comparison, but Gigi cannot be categorized. If you're a fan of the blues and good music in general, you will enjoy this album. Well done Gigi! Keep the blues alive!!"
