CD Reviews

Magic concert available in its entirity
Robert English | Independence, OR USA | 11/21/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"A long time ago, I'd found a scratchy copy of the American mid-50's LP issue of this concert. Although the noisy disc made for difficult listening, it became a favorite of mine. Thanks to this CD reissue, I can enjoy it without the surface noise. Add to that the extra tracks, heard for the first time in this package, and you've got great entertainment value.
Besides the performances being top-notch, and the recording itself being very good (though not in stereo - monaural is all there is), the energy of the crowd makes this extra-special. Gerry and Company were among friends, and they knew it.
If you're familiar with the LP, you'll see some familiar titles in the track listing - the other tracks are just as good as the ones you already know. The second volume (also available at Amazon) includes more previously unheard stuff.
We're fortunate that a top-quality recording was made of these concerts. With these two volumes, you can hear it all."
