CD Reviews

Buddy Leach is no Hank Carter

"Two problems with this release:

1) The mastering is atrocious. The sound signal has been compressed to such an extent that there is audible distortion from the beginning of the recording to end. It is so bad that the first time I played this CD in my car I thought the CD player had broken. The record company should be ashamed of releasing such an inferior product, and the mastering engineer should be summarily fired and never allowed to work in the business again.

2) Buddy Leach's performance on every song on which he didn't originally play on is awful. All the sax solos are very different and far, far from good. Think of a replacement singer improvising new lyrics to classic songs night after night and you'll get an idea of what these songs sound like. The sax solo on Night Time is gone in its entirety and replaced by a guitar solo. One wonders if Leach's attempt at a solo during rehearsals sounded so bad that not even Uncle George could stomach it. It does truly ruin every song.

I love George and the Destroyers, I have every album and I've seen every tour for the past 16 years, but I absolutely, 100% hate this album. I can't stand listening to it. If you want good Thorogood live, get the LIVE, Let's Work Together and Live in '99 albums. Skip this one!!!

"So, you need another GT live album like you need a hole in the head? Me too, but you really can't lose with these. They are all pretty interchangeable and all pretty stellar. Whenever and wherever the Delaware Destroyers take the stage, they are the kings of rock and roll. In addition, the used price is certainly right, turn it up!"
