GENE CLARK SOARS IN FINAL SOLO FLIGHT
S. F Gulvezan | Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan USA | 03/08/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In this, the final solo album released before Gene Clark's untimely death at age 46, he once again proved his talents as a superior singer and songwriter. In original songs ranging from the haunting "Rain Song" to the cowboy narrative "Rodeo Rider" to the semi-mystical "Blue Raven" Clark demonstrates his range and versatility as a sensitive, soulful songwriter. He also revisits his early career (as co-founder of The Byrds) by providing new versions of two songs from The Byrds first album, "Mr. Tambourine Man," this time in an extended, piano-driven version, and "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better," written by Clark and recognized as a classic rock song. All in all, highly recommended for anyone who likes soulful folk-rock or country-rock."
Don't buy it
Peter D Whitton | Edinburgh, Lothian United Kingdom | 07/13/2001

"This is one for the the fanantic and I mean the completist only. Buy this at your peril. I am a massive Clark fan but cannot with a clear concience recommend this. The arrangements have a trite 80's sound, with the inclusion of laughable versions of Mr Tamourine Man and Feel a Whole Lot Better that border on musak. Those seeking and introduction to Clark should check out American Dreamer or any thing else in his increadible back catalogue in preference to this. The album 'No Other' is a personal favourite."
