Synopsis

Album Description
Revelation: 83 The time has come to add a new subsection to the alternative music scene. "Heavy melodic" is the best way to describe Garrison, the newest rock sensation out of Boston, Mass. Although their music could be described as emotional, it would be unfair to describe these guys as just an "emo" band. Skillfully combining equal parts post-hardcore, sentimental pop, rock and lots of melody, Garrison are a band who write timeless songs that anyone can appreciate. Composed of four gentlemen in their mid-twenties, Garrison was born in the spring of 1998 by Joseph Grillo and Ed McNamara as a side project since each was already involved with other musical endeavors, Stricken for Catherine and Iris, respectively (incidentally, McNamara also founded The Space in Worcester -also known as the Artists Alliance of Worcester). With the addition of their childhood friends and fellow rockers Andrew White and Guy D'Annolfo, it wasn't long before the quartet decided to devote their energy into Garrison exclusively. "We just wanted to make music that was intense and fun, and could be enjoyed by people who were not necessarily musicians," recounts singer/ guitarist Grillo. "Lyrically, I tend to write a lot about getting over the past. Music seems to be the easiest way to express certain things." Their demo was recorded in May of '98 with Kurt Ballou of Converge and an East Coast tour followed that summer. February of '99 brought about the release of a self- titled 7" on Espo Records. The very next month they returned to the studio to record The Bend Before The Break for Revelation with label mate Brian McTernan (Battery) of the famed Salad Days Studios. As for the future, the band has touring plans which run through the fall. Garrison is set on proving themselves as a band with staying power... and they're just getting warmed up.

CD Reviews

Fabulous pop for tomorrow's generation.
09/15/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Has the feel of pop-rock, but has much more depth. Interesting time changes, unexpected breaks, and I have to say, one of the best, solid bass players I have ever heard. The guy really ties the band together with his thundering rythms and melodic tinkerings. The drummer is quite spectacular, too."
Rock music for people who still think

"SHEER ROCK GENIUS. The rythym section in particular is simply phenomenal. If you want well-concieved and passionately played rock for someone with a brain, this is the 4-track cd for you. And they're even better live upstairs at Jacques."
