CD Reviews

Beautiful Voice, Beautiful Woman
arthur jacknow | shirley, n.y. United States | 06/23/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I can't believe that no one has rated this Cd yet? I'm not a professional reviewer or a musician, but I really enjoyed this CD. The lady ages gracefully (forgive me, Ms. Costa), This is a somewhat, mellower CD. The title cut is lovely MINHA VOZ,MINHA VIDA. NEGRO AMOR, is Bob Dylan,s "It's all over now Baby Blue" . It is just captivating. I imagine though that it might be one of those tunes that people will either love or hate. I love it and can listen to it over and over. I can't imagine any Gal Costa fan not wanting this CD."
Gal Costa - The Voice of Brazil

"This is a very strong album with many fine examples of her vocal stylings. Plenty of her appealing kitten-like meuwings and purrings which are her trademark. Unarguably one of the most expressive and sensual voices in music, Gal Costa's distinctive sound should be much more well known internationally. She's kept her artistic experimentations, which sometimes work and sometimes do not, to a minimum in this effort. Gal, if you want to experiment then let's do the loop and hear you accompanied by a '40s style Brazilian big band, while you perform that era's Brazilian standards. Maybe even an American standard or two with lyrics in Portuguese. It would become a classic. Well, enough of my musings! The bottom line is "Minha Voz, Minha Vida" - "My Voice, My Life", will surely reward as part of your musical library. Tchau."
