Synopsis

Album Description
The Requiem is Fauré?s most famous composition, an exquisitely beautiful work that takes a serene and comforting view of death. The Cantique de Jean Racine is an early choral work, and the Messe Basse a short Mass written about 1880. A native of New Zealand, Ross Pople studied at the Paris Conservatory and at age 26 was invited by Sir Colin Davis and Pierre Boulez to be principal cellist of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the youngest ever in the history of the orchestra. Pople later founded the London Festival Orchestra, whose numerous recordings for Hyperion and ASV have attracted outstanding reviews, and he has been seen often on the BBC.
