Synopsis

Album Description
Founded by drummer Mani Neumeier, this is their 4th release in their classic album series and was originally released in 1973. Most music critics did not quite know what to make of the first 3 albums, which were a mix of psychedelic rock, free jazz and a healthy dose of humour, unclassifiable and great. This fantastic album is no exception and is one of the most important in the ongoing history of Guru Guru. The Rock'n'Roll medley on this disc gives a hint as to how much fun this band was and is live and also contains the unforgettable musical earworm Der Elektrolurch, which became Mani's alter ego and is a classic in its own right. Produced by Guru Guru and Conny Plank.

Guru Guru - self-titled (Repertoire)
Mike Reed | USA | 11/30/2005
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Originally released in 1973,as this was Guru Guru's fourth album. Not as outstanding as 'UFO'('70)or 'Kanguru'('72)-see my reviews.Total of five tracks here, best are the last two cuts that happen to be the traditional lengthy Guru Guru tunes that most of us have come to expect. The ten-minute stunning "Der Elektrolurch"(a cut that Mani still plays live to this day)and the twelve-minute lesser known cosmic gem "The Story Of Life",the vocals could be better but the playing is superb."Samantha's Rabbit" and "Woman Drum" really didn't do much for me.Maybe not a krautrock classic, but still worth snatching up a copy of and giving a spin every now and then.Line-up:Mani Neumeier-drums,percussions&vocals,Ax Genrich-guitar&vocals,Bruno Schaab-bass&vocals and Connie Plank(R.I.P.)-engineer."
