Synopsis

Product Description
The Be Good Tanyas' Frazey Ford is set to release her debut solo album "Obadiah" on July 20. "Obadiah" combines Frazey's gorgeous sultry vocals that helped define the Tanyas' sound, with her ever growing love for soul music, adding a rich fullness and bottom end to the 13 tracks the comprise the debut. Recorded during a blissful Vancouver summer, "Obadiah" is a collection of songs hand-carved by the hardships and exaltations of life, and stained with the rich colors of soul and folk music that fueled artists like Joni Mitchell, Ann Peebles, Neil Young, and Donny Hathaway.

CD Reviews

We missed you Frazey, but it was worth the wait...

"I've had this CD less than 2 days but it has already become one of my all time favorites. Her singing is better that ever, more rhythmic, more sultry and all of her little Frazeyisms are as good or better than ever. The music has a much more soulful groove than the Tanyas, as does the singing, and the understated electric rhythm/light lead guitar really kicks it in subtly and pushes it solidly along. You can listen to it musically, vocally, think on the lyrics whatever... it works well on any, every and all levels.

Her writing has matured. She was great before, but after a few years of the ups and downs of real adulthood experience, you really do have something more to say. I haven't heard a soul opened this widely since "Blue", "For the Roses" or "Blood on the Tracks". Sorry that she had to go through much of it, but glad that she could share it with us so beautifully. As Dylan once said about all of us who loved "Blood on the Tracks", "A lot of people tell me they enjoy that album. It's hard for me to relate to that. I mean, it, you know, people enjoying that type of pain, you know?"

I would recommend that you grab this immediately, if not sooner."
Soooo much more than I expected

"I'm a Be Good Tanyas fan and was bummed when they disbanded (?). Anyhow, saw Frazey Ford was playing locally, touring behind her just released solo project. Didn't know what to expect and damn, what fine show and mesmerizing bunch of new songs. This album builds slowly, patiently and gets better with every listen. Her interest in R&B shines on many tracks. Both the melodies and the very fine lyrics just keep pulling you in. Best tracks are Lost Together, Birds of Paradise, Hey Little Mama, but they really are all quite good. Ford defies easy categorization, even moreso than the BGT, but just buy this album. You won't regret it. Sometimes it reminded me of the creative fusion of Luscious Jackson, sometimes the moodiness of the cowboy Junkies, whatever, it's very good."
AMAZING!

"Frazey has put together an awesome debut solo album from start to finish. Every song on here seems to really connect with me on so many levels. I LOVE IT. Keep up the good work Frazey!"
